Foldable bike with Camlock’s Series 13D Quipplan Mobility manufactures folding electric bicycles or ‘pedelecs’. A micro cam lock manufactured by Camlock Systems secures the bike.
The Q10 bike comes with a battery operated motor capable of transporting the rider at 15 miles per hour and is available in a sport and a city version. A range of accessories is available including LED lights, a stand, a rack and LCD digital displays.
The aluminium frame of the Quipplan makes the bike lightweight, just 16.5 kg. When folded, the bike measures just 80 cm long by 65 cm high by 45 cm wide so can be transported easily in the shoulder bag supplied. Unsurprisingly, the bike is proving to be a big hit with commuters. The bike comes with a two year guarantee as standard – an optional third year is available – and is accredited under European standard EN15194.
Spanish company Quipplan designed the bike to have an integral lock in the main folding mechanism's handle. The lock also prevents the battery from being stolen from the integral compartment inside the frame and allows the key-holder easy access to the battery, as required. Quipplan selected a micro-sized cam lock manufactured by Camlock Systems. Camlock’s Series 13D provides full functionality in ultra compact proportions – the body length is just 10.5 mm.
Camlock’s range of micro cam locks with a radial pin tumbler mechanism is available in three body lengths and two material specifications: 10.5 mm in die-cast alloy, 13 mm and 16 mm both in brass. The lock’s polished chrome finish is a perfect complement to the stylish design and looks of the bike.
Quipplan’s satisfaction with both the locks and the multi-lingual customer service resulted in the company placing a repeat order. Enrico Miracoli, Product Manager at Quipplan, says: “From Camlock we are getting a quality product at a fair price, plus an excellent Spanish-speaking service.”
More information about the Series 13D lock and other locking products can be found on Camlock Systems. For further information on the Q10 bike go to Quipplan Mobility.

VARTA Microbattery pedelec batteries require a stable construction for leisure and professional use. The company decided to secure its batteries for some designs using pushlocks manufactured by Camlock Systems.
VARTA Microbattery GmbH is a leading European manufacturer of retail and OEM batteries. The company’s batteries are used in a wide range of applications, encompassing automotive, computer, cell phones & medical equipment.
Another business area is the CellPac BIKE service which produces batteries for pedelecs (or ‘electric bikes’) fitted with a lightweight battery, using lithium-ion rechargeable cells. The product is extremely robust towards environmental and climatic conditions such as rain, heat or mud.
The battery compartment is secured with Camlock’s 3015 pushlock. The 6 disk tumbler lock provides good security. It has a push-to-lock action, a 45º locking movement and the user-friendly double entry key is trapped in the unlocked position. This ensures that the key cannot be lost while the battery compartment is open. A sprung horseshoe clip helps VARTA to achieve fast mounting.
Alex Stapleton, Product Manager at VARTA, says: “When we first started the project, we were looking for a suitable lock from a supplier who could be a helpful and supporting partner. Camlock Systems was able to fulfil these needs.”

The crew of the new cruise liner Queen Elizabeth has the benefit of making cashless payments with a rechargeable payment card. The payment system was designed and manufactured by Protouch Solutions Ltd, which is well known for its kiosks and touch screens. A lock manufactured by Camlock Systems Ltd keeps the money safe.
The new luxury cruise liner sailed on its maiden voyage in 2011. The Queen Elizabeth combines luxurious accommodation and ornate décor with the latest technology. The ship can accommodate over 2,000 passengers and a crew of over 1,000.
Security problems might arise if each member of the crew had to carry money around with them and to hand over cash for each transaction.
With its Xen4 cabinet Protouch has developed an ideal solution to avoid cash transactions on board the Queen Elizabeth. Each crew-member simply inserts his or her payment card into one of the machines and charges it using cash. After topping up, the card can be used for day to day expenditure on board.
In order to protect the cash in the kiosks, Protouch selected the P491 high security pushlock, designed and manufactured by Camlock Systems.
The mechanism of this lock uses Camlock’s patented ‘Octagon’ system which offers a major advantage in preventing unauthorized access with a duplicate key. A unique key combination is available for keyed alike suites of this robust and highly durable lock, which can be registered to provide the highest level of key control.

The Series 35, a breakthrough in locks
Camlock Systems Ltd has launched a new generation of locking device known as the Series 35.
Developed over two years, the all-new mechanism features a revolutionary and unique asymmetrical warded keyway. Seven stainless steel locking elements fasten the central core to the outer body and it has a hardened steel anti-drill centre post. Further protection from drilling is provided by a second hardened roller inside the lock, which spins freely when a drill bit comes into contact with it.
The new mechanism and construction stands up to the ever-increasing threats from criminals. These range from opportunistic crimes using brute force to carefully planned attacks by organised gangs employing more insidious methods such as picking, bumping or unauthorised key duplication.
Initially, the new range comprises three body lengths of camlock in the conventional 19mm x 16mm ‘double D’ profile and a ‘Bullet’ type locking insert.
The Series 35 will afford a simple retro-fit upgrade for most popular styles of specialist locks or can be designed into new equipment where high security and peace of mind is paramount.
Over 750,000 different key combinations are available, allowing an exclusive key combination to be allocated to the user or purchaser. This combination can be registered online with Camlock Systems, to ensure that only authorised personnel can obtain extra keys.
The Series 35 can be supplied ‘keyed to differ’, where each lock in a set is operated by its own individual key, or ‘keyed alike’, which offers the convenience of any key within a set or suite operating any or all of the locks. A wide range of cams is available, allowing the lock to be used on many applications. Patents have been applied for internationally to protect the lock’s integrity and its cutting edge design. Three examples of the high security ranges developed by Mesan and Camlock.
Mesan, the manufacturer of enclosure and cabinet fixtures, has launched fourteen new ranges of high security swing handles and multi-point locks. At the heart of the products is a lock manufactured by Camlock Systems that features a patented mechanism designed to prevent unauthorized duplicate keys being cut in key cutting outlets.
Mesan believes that it is the first manufacturer to offer high security ranges of enclosure, cabinet and panel fittings. The move is in response to users becoming concerned that the relatively low security lock types sold by nearly all OEMs offer insufficient protection for many indoor and outdoor applications such as 19” rack server cabinets, telecommunications centre enclosures, high value electronics enclosures, highway control cabinets and high value tool cabinets.
The new ranges come in industry-standard body and mounting hole sizes. This makes it easy to upgrade existing applications and requires minimal changes to drawings and specifications. Low profile closures are available, together with both cylindrical and Euro profile locks. Weather resistance to IP65 standard is provided on all the ranges. There is a very wide choice of materials and finishes.
The new high security locks have excellent resistance to picking and an anti-drill centre for added security. The mechanism offers over 500,000 different key combinations, allowing unique combinations on batches of keyed alike locks. The all-brass lock construction and polished chrome finish provide superb durability.
Tony Dent, Sales Director of Camlock Systems Ltd, says:
“These new products combine Mesan’s manufacturing excellence with Camlock’s security expertise and represent a breakthrough in the industry. What’s more, the much greater security comes at marginal additional cost for the OEM.”
