Fujitsu selects Camlock Systems to secure high specification computing equipment

Fujitsu in the UK has designed and installed innovative IT equipment in naval ships and submarines and selected Camlock Systems to satisfy its lock requirements.

When a navy specifies PCs, servers, printers and network equipment to be fitted onboard ship, full account has to be taken of the unique environment. The demanding requirements include excellent reliability, a much smaller size than typical commercial computers, rugged mountings, ease of upgrading components, excellent resistance to interference and fast installation when the ship is in dock, as well as achieving best value for money through tender procedures.

Fujitsu designed and built the PCs using normal commercial components but packaged to make them much smaller and significantly better suited to the demanding naval environment than widely available branded PCs. The size of the special Fujitsu PCs is little more than that of a set top box.

The powerful and robust PCs have been fitted in Royal Navy vessels, from aircraft carriers and submarines to mine hunters and Royal Fleet Auxiliaries, to provide an information systems infrastructure capable of supporting administrative services onboard. The Royal Navy of the Netherlands has also specified Fujitsu products.

Camlock worked closely with Fujitsu to supply a lock system that would both meet the demands of the onboard environment and provide a high level of security. Camlock’s patented Series 28 ‘Octagon’ products provided the optimum solution. Series 28 products are constructed for maximum reliability and durability and feature a unique design to enhance security.

Mick Sargeant, Design Engineer at Fujitsu Services in Basingstoke says:

“The needs of the customer are paramount to Fujitsu and we look for suppliers with a similar attitude that we can build a good working relationship with and are willing to share our goals and objectives.”

Locking security gets tough with Camlock

The new Series 31 lock from Camlock Systems is designed to provide OEMs with excellent value and a good level of security protection for lockers, cabinets, storage boxes, mail boxes, drugs cabinets, deed boxes, chemical storage cabinets, tool cabinets and many other applications.

The lock, which is a 10 disc double entry camlock, provides good key security by using a large number of key combinations — 2,000 as standard and up to 10,000 to special order. It provides designers, engineers, specifiers and buyers with the latest in lock design at a very competitive price.

Camlock Systems has designed the lock and used its expertise in security software to provide key combinations that are ‘safe’ and reduce the incidence of ‘key crossover’ — when one key can operate two or more locks with different key combinations.

To suit a wide range of applications, the Series 31 lock is available in three configurations: keyed to differ, master keyed and keyed alike. Master key codes are allocated exclusively and can be registered under an ‘authorized signatory’ system with the manufacturer, drastically reducing the possibility of keys being obtained by deceit.

The lock incorporates a positive-click index locking/unlocking action that prevents the locking cam from falling back under its own weight if keys are left in the lock. Body length is a compact 20mm. A choice of key movements is available: 90° turn clockwise or anti-clockwise with key free in the locked position only, or 180° turn clockwise or anti-clockwise with key free when locked and unlocked. The first of these key movements traps the key when the lock is unlocked, requiring users to lock the locker or cabinet before leaving, and reducing the chance of the keys being lost.

The Series 31 is attractively finished in a smart bright chrome plate and offers excellent durability. The keys are particularly strong to stand up to heavy usage, and for users’ convenience, the lock face and keys carry the key identification number.

The lock is available with a choice of fixing methods, either a ¾ inch brass body nut or a sprung horseshoe clip for fast fitting. A wide range of 2.5mm thick x 16mm wide zinc plated steel cams for use with the lock is available from stock, with special cams available to order.

Further information on the new range is available from Camlock by sending an e-mail to enquiries@camlock.com or by telephoning 01323 410996.
Whatever the application, the Series 31 lock from Camlock Systems combines security, versatility, easy fitting and a very competitive price in one package.

Camlock chosen to keep valuables secure while being recharged

ChargeBox® is a truly innovative piece of equipment that enables users to recharge devices such as mobile phones, portable media players (Ipods), PDAs and handheld games consoles while these are in a safe locker. When users are away from home, they can leave their device charging in the knowledge it is secure and then collect it at their convenience.

ChargeBoxes® can be found in locations such as hotels, gyms, train stations, airports, hospitals, Internet cafes and on the high street. The cost to use a ChargeBox® can be paid either with a £1 coin or by a SMS text, which costs £1.50.

The design of ChargeBox® uses ‘Octagon’ high security locks made by Camlock Systems Ltd. ‘Octagon’ products are constructed for maximum reliability and durability and feature a unique, patented design to enhance security. Only patented locks and keys can prevent unauthorized duplicate keys being cut in high street key cutting outlets. Also, the patents enable Camlock to restrict the issue of duplicate keys for the Octagon locks fitted to ChargeBox® machines solely to the proprietors. In addition, most ChargeBoxes® are watched over by staff at the location and many are also monitored by CCTV cameras.

Commenting on the choice of Camlock’s Octagon locks, Managing Director of ChargeBox® Ian Hobson said: “Our research shows that people are becoming more and more dependent on mobile devices and running out of battery power when on the move is a major inconvenience. We place great importance on keeping these devices secure while in the Chargebox® so after trying other brands of locks, we now specify Camlock’s Octagon to protect all our machines.”
