New lock saves time for bulk vendors

Camlock Systems Inc, one of the world’s leading designers, manufacturers and suppliers of innovative locks and locking systems, has launched its new BV90 lock to provide bulk vending operators with a highly secure lock that also saves them significant time.

Unlocking and locking the OEM locks fitted to most bulk vending machines is a time consuming and physically tiring job. Normally it involves turning the key in the lock through a number of complete rotations to remove the lid from a vending machine and the same process then has to be repeated to replace the lid after the operator has replenished the machine or emptied the cash box. Multiply this by the number of machines and the number of service calls the operator has to make, and it’s clear this wastes a substantial amount of time in a day.

The BV90 has been specially developed in response to this problem and can lock and unlock the vending machine lid with a very quick quarter turn of the key. A patent is pending on the new range.

Typically, most factory fitted OEM bulk vending locks have very few combinations. This can mean machines are vunerable and some operators may be able to access other’s machines. To overcome this problem and to provide a much higher level of security protection, the BV90 incorporates a 7 pin radial pin tumbler lock with Camlock’s award-winning ‘Octagon’ mechanism. This provides hundreds of thousands of possible key combinations and virtually eliminates the problem of thieves using unauthorized duplicate keys to open locks.

To counter the threat posed by the use of lock picks and other picking techniques, the BV90 has been designed and manufactured to offer excellent resistance to picking. The level of anti-picking protection provided is far superior to a conventional 7 pin radial pin tumbler lock.

The BV90 offers key assignment, ensuring that registered keys are only issued to the relevant customer, greatly reducing the possibility of unauthorized duplicate keys entering circulation. The procedure involves assigning a unique key combination to the purchaser or user and recording that person’s signature, which is used to verify all orders for additional locks and keys. Operators then have the reassurance of a much lower risk of thefts by persons using counterfeit keys.

Camlock’s new BV90 lock is of all-brass construction, with a chrome finish and a stainless steel shaft adaptor. Its anti-drill center protects against attacks and the new locks can be retrofitted by the operator thanks to a small, purpose-designed wrench supplied with each set of locks.

Locking security gets tough with Camlock

The new Series 31 lock from Camlock Systems is designed to provide OEMs with excellent value and a good level of security protection for lockers, cabinets, storage boxes, mail boxes, drugs cabinets, deed boxes, chemical storage cabinets, tool cabinets and many other applications.

The lock, which is a 10 disc double entry camlock, provides good key security by using a large number of key combinations — 2,000 as standard and up to 10,000 to special order. It provides designers, engineers, specifiers and buyers with the latest in lock design at a very competitive price.

Camlock Systems has designed the lock and used its expertise in security software to provide key combinations that are ‘safe’ and reduce the incidence of ‘key crossover’ — when one key can operate two or more locks with different key combinations.

To suit a wide range of applications, the Series 31 lock is available in three configurations: keyed to differ, master keyed and keyed alike. Master key codes are allocated exclusively and can be registered under an ‘authorized signatory’ system with the manufacturer, drastically reducing the possibility of keys being obtained by deceit.

The lock incorporates a positive-click index locking/unlocking action that prevents the locking cam from falling back under its own weight if keys are left in the lock. Body length is a compact 20mm. A choice of key movements is available: 90° turn clockwise or anti-clockwise with key free in the locked position only, or 180° turn clockwise or anti-clockwise with key free when locked and unlocked. The first of these key movements traps the key when the lock is unlocked, requiring users to lock the locker or cabinet before leaving, and reducing the chance of the keys being lost.

The Series 31 is attractively finished in a smart bright chrome plate and offers excellent durability. The keys are particularly strong to stand up to heavy usage, and for users’ convenience, the lock face and keys carry the key identification number.

The lock is available with a choice of fixing methods, either a ¾ inch brass body nut or a sprung horseshoe clip for fast fitting. A wide range of 0.1 inch thick x 0.63 in wide zinc plated steel cams for use with the lock is available from stock, with special cams available to order.

Whatever the application, the Series 31 lock from Camlock Systems combines security, versatility, easy fitting and a very competitive price in one package.
